Our Vision

Design Principles offers intelligent design, comprehensive management, and informative consultation services to the construction community. Our team draws from over 20 years of commercial and residential construction experience to advance an approach and process that is focused on finding solutions efficiently.

With that, we create innovative designs with intent to balance the client’s program and budgetary requirements with social and environmental responsibility.

Our name is our philosophy. Understanding the design problem and applying the appropriate principles to create the right solution is fundamental. Offering our service honorably with professional excellence is imperative.

Our History

Design Principles was founded in 1991 and is based in Dallas, Texas near the Central Business District.  We are minority owned and certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) with the North Central Texas Regional Certification Agency (NCTRCA).

Design Principles is a service-oriented, client-inclusive organization with a goal of providing products and services of the highest quality.  We strive to build positive professional relationships with clients and endeavor to attain a clear understanding of our client’s needs and expectations.

Jeff (Design Principles) was an asset to ensuring that the project (a wine cellar) turned out the way that I envisioned it.  He helped me translate my ideas and goals into instructions for the company that was doing the implementation.  At points when others suggested alternatives, Jeff helped me understand the choices, longer term implications to functionality and in some cases, negotiate new alternatives.  One specific example, the company managing the implementation was hesitant to lay out the tiles on the floor in the manner that achieved the look I wanted.  Jeff developed a CAD layout that showed options for achieving the look I was after with different tile choices/size as well as how the measurements for layout should work.  The floor turned out terrific, but would have been a major struggle if Jeff had not been able to direct the activities.

I had a vision of what I wanted the results to look like, but no idea how to start the work or what the likely budget and work effort might be. Jeff worked with me to define the technical requirements and coordinate bids to complete the work.  In areas where there were budget challenges, Jeff provided options and alternatives so that we could better achieve the project goals without blowing the budget.

Our Affiliations

The African Chamber of Commerce D/FW promotes trade, commerce, cultural exchange and education between the North Texas and Nations of Africa in the Diaspora.  The African Chamber of Commerce D/FW was founded by few Africans under the leadership of Dr. Obi Duruji.  Mr. Sanmi Akinmulero became the president and opens it to the public and now his membership has grown to 400 plus and maintaining its core values.
